Region 3 Cross Country Championships hosted by Finger Lakes CC this Saturday

Approximately one hundred runners will be competing for both individual and team championships this Saturday at Finger Lakes Community College.  Twelve programs will be competing this weekend in the final competition prior to the NJCAA national championships.  A number of competitors are returning to FLCC having competed in the Annual Bruce Bridgeman Invtational hosted by Finger Lakes in mid September.  The SUNY Broome CC men's program and the Hudson Valley CC women's program will be looking to repeat as Regional Champions after winning the 2021 Regional Championships.  The women's race is scheduled for 10:30 with the men schedule to start at 11:15. 

Men's Championship

SUNY Broome and Hudson Valley CC enter the weekend after winning conference championships last weekend; SUNY Broome won the Mid-State Conference; Hudson Valley won the Mountain Valley Conference.  The men's race will feature approximately 75 runners from all twelve competing programs with multiple runners entering the championship having won regular season races.  Herkimer's Avion Harris captured a pair of individual titles along with multiple runner-up finishes this season.  He won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship race last weekend crossing the finish line more than fifty seconds ahead of runner-up Eric Zumpe from Hudson Valley.  Mohawk Valley CC's Omar Mohamed also won a pair of races this season, including the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational.  SUNY Broome's Connor Smith is also entering the race coming off a win last weekend.  Smith captured the Mid-State Conference Championship race last weekend leading the Hornets to the team conference championship.

Women's Championship

The women's race will feature a trio of runners who won races this season.  Erie CC's Lydia Smith won two races this year; she enters the weekend having won the Meghan Memorial hosted by Hilbert College two weeks ago in her regular season finale.  Smith also won the Bruce Bridgeman Invitational ealier this season besting SUNY Broome's Aja Jackson by less than three seconds.  Jackson is entering the championship having won the Mid-State Conference Championshipo race last weekend, finishing four second ahead of Finger Lakes CC's Leah Lloyd.  Lloyd does not have a win this season but she will be looking to repeat as the Region 3 Women's Champion having won the 2021 Championship as a freshman last year.  Hudson Valley CC's Olivia Skylstad is the third competitor competing this weekend with a win this season.  Skylstad continued to build on a solid sophomore season with a win at the Mountain Valley Conference Championship last weekend after a number of top 5 and top 10 finishes earlier in the season.
