Male Athletes of the Week

Eliecer Carrera

Sport:  Baseball

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Rochester, NY

Carrera led the GCC baseball team to a 4-2 record last week against regional, divisional opponents Monroe CC and Mercyhurst NE.  Carrera produced seven hits in 18 at bats (.389 average), including a home run and two doubles. He scored eight runs and stole five bases while driving in three runs.  He currently holds a .382 batting average on the season, which is second highest on the team.

 

 

Brian Moran

Sport:   Lacrosse

College:  Monroe Community College

Hometown:  Buffalo, NY

Moran, a freshman attack from Orchard Park High School, tallied eight goals as the MCC men's lacrosse team went 2-0 last week. Moran had four goals in a 15-10 win over Finger Lakes CC on Wednesday. Three of the scores came during a 7-1 run that turned a 7-6 deficit into a 13-8 lead in the fourth quarter. He then added four goals and an assist in a 17-1 win over Niagara CCC Saturday. Moran has 19 goals on the season.

 

 

Eric Mueller

Sport:   Baseball

College:  Hudson Valley Community College

Hometown:  Bethlehem, NY

Mueller went 12-29 this week for the Vikings, helping them to five league wins. He hit three triples and a home run while adding 10 RBIs at the top of the order. He registered four multi-hit games.

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Ronette Claar

Sport:  Softball

College:  Mercyhurst University - North East

Hometown:  Queen, PA

Claar excelled both offensively and defensively this week. In the circle Claar went 3-0 with wins over Lakeland CC, Niagara CCC, and Monroe College. She also earned a save against Monroe. She tossed a no hitter against Lakeland and allowed just 2 hits and 0 runs in 15 innings this week. At the plate Claar hit four home runs and drove home 11 runners. She hit two home runs in a single game at Lakeland, a grand slam home run at Niagara and capped the week with the game winning 3 run homerun against Monroe College in a 4-2 win that clinched the 1st seed for the upcoming district playoffs.

 

Ashley Covel

Sport:  Softball

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Oakfield, NY

Ashley led the Cougars softball team to a five-win week last week with her arm and her bat.  In eight games, Covel had a .542 batting average (13 for 24) with six extra base hits, including a pair of homeruns; she also had two stolen bases.  Her pitching performances were equally effective as she went 3-1 in four starts, throwing a pair of two-hitters including a shutout of Jamestown CC-Olean and an extra-inning win over Finger Lakes CC. She gave up just seven earned runs in her four starts.

 

Brittany Sears

Sport:  Softball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Phoenix, NY

Brittney hit .500 this week as she collected 10 hits in 20 at bats including two doubles, a triple, and 3 home runs and three walks.  Many of her hits were timely as she collects 15 RBI's.   Defensively in 3 pitching appearances, she went 2-0 including a shutout allowing only two earned runs 11.2 innings pitched.
