Monroe CC captures Men's and Women's Division I Soccer Regional Championships

Monroe Community College hosted Mercyhurst University - North East in a pair of Regional Championship matches on Saturday. The MCC women were dominant once again scoring early and often as they built a 8-0 lead by halftime with four goals from tournament MVP Elin Eklund and three from Bayley Kralik.  The Tribunes continued to find the back of the net in the second half as MCC cruised to a 14-0 victory en route to a 19th consecutive Regional Championship.  Eklund finished with five assists in addition to her four first half goals while Kralik finished the game with five goals and a pair of helpers.  Theoni Zerva collected a trio of goals in the win while Marykate Eckert held Mercyhurst NE scoreless collecting a pair of saves to earn the shutout.  The Tribunes advance to the NJCAA District E tournament November 4-5 to be hosted by Region XIX Champion Essex County College.

The men took the field in the second game of the day looking to claim the Regional Championship and to earn the right to host the Northeast District Championship next weekend.  The Tribunes found the net for the first time in the 19th minute when Anthony Paris scored on a PK.  The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Monroe as the teams headed to the half.  Monroe would add a pair of goals in the second half as tournament MVP Matt Englert scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute while Ethan Witkowski capped the scoring to extend the lead to 3-0 with 26 minutes remaining.  The MCC defense held strong as the Saints managed just two shots on the afternoon to earn the shutout.
