Region III Baseball Championships Begin This Weekend

The Division III Baseball Regional Championship Tournament begins this weekend with the cross sectional matchups.  The top two seeds from both the Eastern and Western Sections will play host to the third and fourth seeds from the opposite section.  Each team will play a pair of nine inning games on Saturday with a third game scheduled for Sunday, in the event that the two teams split the Saturday double-header.  The four winners this weekend will then be seeded as they compete in a double-elimination tournament for the Region III title and a trip to the Division III National Championship Tournament.

Hudson Valley Community College and Erie Community College will get the action started on Saturday at 12:00 when they square off in their cross-sectional series.  HVCC earned the second seed in the East Section finishing sectional play at 15-3, 22-9 overall, while Erie enters the post season as the third seed from the West at 26-18 overall with a 17-7 Sectional Record.  Both teams enter the weekend having won seven of their last ten games.
