Male Athletes of the Week

Joseph Bender

Sport:  Baseball

College:  Hudson Valley Community College

Hometown:  Guilderland, NY

Bender went 7-12 last week in helping the Vikings split a four-game set with Clinton. He registered multi-hit games in three of those four games while adding six RBIs.

 

 
Chuck Collins

Sport:   Track & Field

College:  Finger Lakes Community College

Hometown:  Geneva, NY

Collins had another strong meet for the Lakers. Competing in the Cortland Classic, he ran the 10,000 meters in 34:42.33. This qualified him for the NJCAA National Championships. His mark also set the school record. So far this season, Collins has set two school records, qualified for three events at the Region III Championships and two events at the NJCAA National Championships.

 

 

Dana Ray

Sport:   Lacrosse

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Allegany Territory, NY

Dana tallied 17 total points in two games last week for the GCC men's lacrosse team.  Ray tied the school record for third-most goals in a game against Broome CC with eight goals and also added two assists. He followed with four goals and three assists in the regular season finale against Finger Lakes CC, totaling 12 goals and five assists for the week.

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Stephanie Boucher

Sport:  Track & Field

College:  Mohawk Valley Community College

Hometown:  New Hartford, NY

Stephanie broke the school record for the 800 meters twice this week.  On Monday she ran 2:17.02 and then on Saturday she ran 2:15.51.  Along the way she defeated athletes from Hamilton, Oneonta, Cornell and Cortland.  She is currently ranked # 1 in the nation in both the 1500 meters and the 800 meters.

 

Emily Lapage

Sport:  Softball

College:  North Country Community College

Hometown:  Moira, NY

In 2 games against SUNY Adirondack Lapage went 6-8 with a 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 4 runs, and 3 SB's. Emily also got the win on the mound in game 2 going 7 innings, striking out 4, and giving up 2 earned runs in a 6-4 win. On the season, Emily is hitting .500 in 9 games with 4 doubles, 2 HR's, and 8 RBI. On the mound she is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 3 starts.
