Male Athletes of the Week

Glenn Holmes

Sport:  Soccer

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Kilkenny, Ireland

Glenn  contributed on offense and defense last week for the Cougars men's soccer team, helping the Cougars to a pair of wins to stay unbeaten so far this fall. Holmes started both games during the week and helped keep Jamestown CC and Onondaga CC scoreless in both matches. He also added a goal and three assists to total five points.

 

 

 

 

John Pope

Sport:  Football

College:  Erie Community College

Hometown:  Livonia, NY

The defensive stalwart stripped the ball from the College of DuPage on their own 7-yard line, which allowed Erie to score a touchdown. The score resulting from the forced fumble allowed ECC to beat the CoD 22-21 in an upset win after the Chaparrals appeared in five of the last six national polls peaking at No. 7. In addition to aiding in the Kats’ touchdown, John also led the team in tackles with 10 and solo tackles with eight. He registered a game-high three sacks and finished with three-and-half tackles for loss for 19 yards and led a defensive push that resulted in 73-percent efficiency on stopping DuPage on third down and leading the defense that only allowed three first down conversions from third down.

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Chyanna Bernier

Sport:  Cross Country

College:  Herkimer College

Hometown:  Ilion, NY

Chyanna placed first overall at the SUNY Delhi Meet on Wednesday with a time of 20:48, a 6:42, pace and came in 5th overall at the Hamilton Meet on Saturday with a time 19:15, a pace of 6:13 setting a new her personal best time.

 

 

 

Eleni Markou

Sport:  Soccer

College:  Monroe Community College

Hometown:  Kastoria, Greece

Markou had a pair of hat tricks as the MCC women's soccer team won two games last week. The freshman midfielder had three goals to lead the Tribunes to a 6-1 win over the Nazareth College JVs on Wednesday. She then added three more goals and two assists as Monroe defeated regional foe Mercyhurst North East 12-0 on Saturday.
