Male Athletes of the Week

 

Gage Lanning

Sport:  Baseball

College:  Herkimer College

Hometown:  Central Square, NY

Lanning helped the baseball team to a perfect 8-0 record last week, improving their current win streak to 10 games. Gage hit .458 during the eight-game streak, totaling 11 hits and 12 runs batted in four doubleheaders. The outfielder’s highlight of the week came against Columbia-Greene at home when he hit a walk off grand slam in the fifth inning to beat the Twins 15-4. It was Lanning’s second walk off this season.

 

Kyle Naugle

Sport:  Baseball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Fayetteville, NY

Kyle appeared in six games this week going 2-0 with three saves surrendering zero runs in seven and one-third innings to help lead the Lazers to a 6-2 record. On Tuesday Naugle picked up the win in game 1 of a double header against Genesee CC, pitching an inning and a third in relief. In game one on Saturday against Finger Lakes Community College, Naugle would pitch three innings of relief out of the bullpen to pick up his third win on the year, recording four strike outs in the 6-5 win. He registered his sixth save of the season recording a pair of outs in the Lazers 5-4 win. On the season, the closer is 3-0 with a Region III best six saves with an 1.17 ERA in 13 appearances.

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Courtney McDonell

Sport:  Softball

College:  Hudson Valley Community College

Hometown:  Clifton Park, NY

Courtney had a solid week at the plate for the Vikings collecting 9 hits in16 at bats (.563) including a home run.  She had a .528 on-base-percentage, and a .676 slugging percentage.  She was equally effective on the bases and in the field picking up 7 steals with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

 

Morgan Nichols

Sport:  Softball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Syracuse, NY

Nichols appeared in four games on the week going 3-0 with one save while issuing just three runs in 20 innings to help lead the Lazers to a perfect 6-0 week. She pitched a complete game giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits and no walks, while striking out five in the Lazers 4-2 win in game 1 of a double-header with Columbia-Greene CC. Morgan entered game 2 in relief for the final two innings to register the win. Nichols tossed her second complete game on the week pitching a three-hitter giving up an unearned run while striking out seven Broncos in the Lazers 3-1 win. In the nightcap, Nichols pitched the final four innings allowing just one hit to earn the save.
