Male Athletes of the Week

 

Nate Budge

Sport:  Baseball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Central Square, NY

Budge went 7-13 (.538) in a 5-0 week for the Lazers. He scored 9 runs, had 6 RBI and had 4 stolen bases in as many attempts. He slugged .923 with 5 singles, a triple, and a homerun while calculating a .632 on-base percentage with 5 walks and a hit by pitch. A starter in all seven games this season, Budge leads the team in batting average at .579, on-base percentage at .680, hits, runs scored, RBI, and slugging percentage. Budge, the team leader in multi-hit games with five, recorded a six game hitting streak to start the season.

 

 

 

Mike Caternolo

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Chili, NY

Mike helped control possession for the No. 4 GCC men's lacrosse team last week, winning better than 84% of the face-offs he took in a pair of wins. Caternolo controlled a total of 48 of the 57 face-offs he took, going 21 for 26 in a road win over No. 9 Monroe CC and 27 for 31 in a win over SUNY Delhi. He also collected 30 ground balls in two games, including a new school record for most ground balls in a single game with 18 against MCC.

 

 

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Kiersten Coho

Sport:  Softball

College:  Mercyhurst University - North East

Hometown:  East Freedom, PA

Coho had 4 wins in the circle over the week for the Saints as they competed in Maryland. On Thursday, She had a complete game shutout over 13th ranked CCBC Catonsville. In the second game, she earned the win in relief and also had the go ahead RBI. On Friday, Kiersten earned the win, again in relief vs Frederick Community College. On Saturday, Coho had a complete game victory over Corning Community College, striking out 13. In that game (7-3 win), she also had two home runs at the plate. For the weekend, she had 18 innings, 3 earned runs, and 25 strikeouts.

 

 

 

Taylor Daniels

Sport:  Softball

College:  Herkimer College

Hometown:  Watervliet, NY

Taylor helped the Herkimer Generals softball program finish their spring trip 11-4, which included a nine game win streak. Daniels hit .600 and collected 24 hits while scoring 21 runs. Among her 21 hits were nine were doubles and two home runs.  She has collected 29 runs batted in 40 at bats this season.
