Male Athletes of the Week

Sam Castronova

Sport:  Football

College:  Erie Community College

Hometown:  Williamsville, NY

Castronova accounted for nearly half of Erie’s total offense in an upset win over then No. 13 Globe Institiute of Technology 30-6. Sam had a huge second quarter, first scoring on a 5-yard run that gave the Kats the lead for good, and then throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass with just two seconds left in the first half for a 17-6 lead. Castronova finished with 14 completions and a 156 yards passing in helping Erie get its first winning season in almost a decade.

 

 

 

Lyle Wagner

Sport:  Swimming & Diving

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Middleport, NY

Lyle led the GCC men's swimming and diving team last week with a pair of first place finishes at the GCC Harvest Invitational. Wagner topped 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke and was a member of two relay wins (400 medley and 200 medley). Genesee finished in second place with a team score of 255 and combined for a second place overall finish with a score of 575.

 

 

Female Athletes of the Week

MiKenna Carpenter

Sport:  Swimming & Diving

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Bath, NY

Carpenter helped the GCC women's swimming and diving team to a first place finish at the GCC Harvest Invitational last weekend. MiKenna won a pair of individual races, winning the 100 freestyle (1:03.29) and the 100 breaststroke (1:27.09). She was also part of three relay wins, the 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 freestyle. The women finished with an overall score of 320 and GCC combined to finish second with an overall score of 575.

 

 

 

Cheyenne Clark

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Mohawk Valley Community College

Hometown:  Deptford, NJ

Cheyenne averaged 18 points and 13.5 rebounds posting two double-doubles in helping the Hawks to two wins this past week.  Her week was highlighted by a 23 point, 15 rebound game against the #10 nationally ranked Saints of North Country CC.

 

 

 

Alliyah Gillespie

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Niagara County Community College

Hometown:  Troy, NY

Gillespie helped the Thunderwolves to a split at the David K. Martin Legacy Showcase hosted by Garrett College this past weekend. In a 62-61 win over Potomac State, Gillespie had 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. In a 71-70 loss to the host Lakers, Gillespie finished with 24 points and six boards. The freshman guard currently leads Region III Div. II players in scoring at 17.3 PPG.
