Male Athletes of the Week

Jovanni Chatham

Sport:  Basketball

College:  SUNY Broome Community College

Hometown:  Brooklyn, NY

In 4 games this week Jovanni averaged 29.5 points per game, shooting 58% from field. He also averaged 4 assists, 2 steals, 4 rebounds and 1 block per game shooting 83% from free-throw line leading the Hornets to 3-1 record.

 

Traquan Scales

Sport:  Basketball

College:  SUNY Adirondack

Hometown:  Mount Vernon, NY

Traquan averaged 21.3 points per game and 8.6 assists per game this week highlighted with a double-double in a win over Cayuga CC when he scored 25 points and dished out 10 assists. He also averaged 5 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 24-29 from the free throw line and 8-13 from three to lead the Timberwolves to a 3-0 week.

 

Raymond Sims Jr.

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Finger Lakes Community College

Hometown:  Geneva, NY

Sims helped lead the Lakers to a 3-0 start including a win over DII Monroe CC. The freshman leads the team averaging 16 points per game and shooting 65% from the floor. Sims also averages 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Female Athletes of the Week

My'Asia Alston

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Hudson Valley Community College

Hometown:  Cohoes, NY

My'Asia's week was highlighted against a pair of teams from Region XV. She had 31 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals against Dutchess CC, and 32 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals against Orange CC. During this week’s four-game stretch in which the Vikings went 3-1, Alston averaged 25.5 points, 8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 5.8 steals per game.

 

Melissa Bakowski

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Warners, NY

Bakowski played a key role in helping the Lazers extend their season-opening winning streak to five games after posting convincing wins over Genesee, SUNY Adirondack and Hudson Valley last week. Melissa nearly averaged a double-double with 11.7 points and eight rebounds in the three-game span while also notching two blocks per game. The freshman forward shot the bell well from the floor, connecting on 15 of her 24 attempts (.625). The high point of her week came against SUNY Adirondack when she scored a career-high 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with six boards and four steals. Bakowski is averaging 12.6 points and 9.6 rebounds this season.

 

Simonemmerson Roberts

Sport:  Basketball

College:  North Country Community College

Hometown:  Brooklyn, NY

Simonemmerson led the Saints to two victories in the team’s first week of action last week. In a 59-12 win over Clinton Community College she scored 7 points and had three rebounds in just 7 minutes of game action. On Saturday Simone led the Saints to a victory over #7 nationally ranked Mohawk Valley CC.  In the Saints 65-51 win over the Hawks Roberts scored 28 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out seven assists.
