Male Athletes of the Week

Connor Doogan

Sport:  Soccer

College:  Cayuga Community College

Hometown:  Belfast, Ireland

Connor has been a vocal rock in the Spartans defense all season, especially in the Region III semifinals game against North Country and in the Region III B finals against Jamestown. With Connor in defense the Spartans conceded 1 goal in 180 minutes of play en route to the championship.

 

Joseph Piazza

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Central Square, NY

Piazza played a pivotal role for the Onondaga CC men's basketball team over the weekend as the Lazers won the 2014 Onondaga Classic to open the season 2-0. Joseph fueled the Lazers opening round win over Anne Arundel with 20 points, shooting 7-for-10 from the field including six 3-pointers. He also tallied five rebounds and two assists in the win.

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Jesse DeWaters

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Niagara County Community College

Hometown:  Lockport, NY

Sophomore guard Jesse DeWaters led the Thunderwolves to a pair of wins at the season-opening Region III Crossover Classic at Jamestown CC this past weekend. In a 104-35 win over Tompkins-Cortland CC, DeWaters finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in just 18 minutes of action. In a 71-48 win over Corning CC, DeWaters had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.

 

Alisia Griffin

Sport:  Basketball

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Geneva, NY

Alisia guided the nationally-ranked Lazers women's basketball team to a 2-0 record last week as the they captured their seventh consecutive title at 2014 the Onondaga Classic. Griffin averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and nearly seven steals per game over the weekend and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as Onondaga downed both Delaware County and Northampton to open the season. In the championship game against Northampton, Griffin netted a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go along with six boards and a career-high seven steals.
