Male Athlete of the Week

Matt Bennett

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Lafayette

Bennett guided the Lazers to their 11th consecutive Region III Men's Lacrosse Championship over the weekend after besting SUNY Broome CC, Herkimer College and Genesee CC. Matt combined to post 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists in the three game span and was named the Region III Championship Most Valuable Player. Against Broome, Bennett finished with two goals and three assists before adding one goal and a game-high five helpers in the win over nationally-ranked Herkimer. The freshman attack would go on to score a game-high eight points on six goals and two dimes in the title game against the fourth-ranked nationally Genesee. For the season, Bennett leads Onondaga and ranks sixth in the nation with 73 points.

 

Female Athletes of the Week

Makenzie Annable

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Syracuse, NY

Makenzie led the No. 2 nationally ranked Lazers to three wins this week. Annable combined to score 20 points for in victories over Jefferson CC, Genesee CC and Erie CC. Against Jefferson, Annable posted 10 points on seven goals and three assists. It was the second time this season the sophomore attacker has tallied 10 points in a single game. She would go on to produce six goals against Genesee before finishing with a goal and three assists in a 23-1 win at Erie Community College. The Syracuse native ranks second on the team and fourth in the nation with 68 points this season.

 

Allison Ford

Sport:  Softball

College:  Hudson Valley Community College

Hometown:  Mechanicville, NY

Ford helped keep the Vikings undefeated this spring as she improved to 10-0 with a pair of wins against Corning CC on Saturday.  On the season she is carrying a 1.57 ERA is second in Region III with ten wins.  At the plate she ranks in the top ten in the Region in hitting with a .543 batting average and has been equally effective on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.
