Male Athletes of the Week

Tyson Bell

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  St. Catharines, Ontario

Bell was a force to be reckoned with in the No. 1 Lazers’ only game of the week as Onondaga downed visiting Harford College, 23-2, on Saturday at David W. Murphy Field. The St. Catharines Ontario native harassed Harford’s attack all game long causing a game-high eight turnovers and scooping up a game-high 11 groundballs in the process. Bell, an All-American defender, also took three shots and recorded one assist in the win. On the season, Bell leads the team with 17 caused turnovers and ranks second overall with 29 groundballs.

 

Matt Spoor

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Finger Lakes Community College

Hometown:  Pen Yan, NY

Matt made his collegiate debut in net this week for the Lakers and made an instant impact. The freshman recorded 41 saves on the week and helped the Lakers go 1-1 to start their season.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

Cheyenne Burnam

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Monroe, NY

Cheyenne Burnam of the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's lacrosse team scored a game-high 10 points as the No. 2 Lazers earned a 24-2 win in their season-opener over CCBC-Essex on Saturday. Burnam tallied four goals and six assists in the win to go along with five shots, one groundball and one draw control. After playing only one game so far this season, Cheyenne is tied for the most assists among any player in the nation and ranks fourth overall in total points.
